History

Native peoples inhabited the area now known as Phoenix from about 2,000 years ago until roughly the year 1400. It is thought that a period of drouht or other bad weather conditions forced the area to be abandoned. In 1848, the land that was once part of Mexico was sold to the United States and Phoenix was initially part of the New Mexico Territory. Between 1940 and 2010, Phoenix went from a small farming and mining community to one of the largest in the nation.

Parks And Recreation 

South Mountain Park is one of the largest parks in Phoenix and the world at over 16,000 acres while the Tonto National Forest forms part of the cities border to the north. The Papango Park is home to the Phoenix Zoo, which features a large number of different animals from around the globe.

Events
